PCL Diacid (HOOC‑PCL‑COOH, MW 10K) is linear α,ω‑dicarboxyl‑terminated biodegradable aliphatic polyester. Compared with low‑to‑medium MW PCL Diacid (2K, 3K, 5K), the 10 kDa grade exhibits greatly increased hydrophobicity and crystallinity, accompanied by much slower hydrolytic degradation rate under physiological conditions. Two terminal carboxylic acid groups can be activated by EDC/NHS to generate amide linkages with amine‑bearing peptides, proteins and small‑molecule drugs. This bifunctional polymer serves as an important building block for high‑molecular‑weight block copolymers, cross‑linked networks, polymer‑drug conjugates and rigid biodegradable biomaterials for biomedical research.
Key Features
- MW: 10000 Da, linear polycaprolactone with carboxyl groups at both chain ends
- Markedly higher hydrophobicity and crystallinity, slower hydrolysis versus 2K/3K/5K PCL Diacid
- Biocompatible high‑crystallinity semi‑crystalline biodegradable polyester
- Dual reactive‑COOH termini; activatable by EDC/NHS for amide coupling with amines
- Narrow molecular weight distribution, stable batch‑to‑batch performance
- Soluble in DCM, CHCl₃, THF, hot DMF; insoluble in water
Applications
- Synthetic precursor for high‑molecular‑weight PCL‑based block copolymers and cross‑linked polymer networks
- Bioconjugation with amine‑functionalized peptides, proteins and therapeutic agents after EDC/NHS activation
- Preparation of amide‑bonded polymer‑drug conjugates for sustained‑release drug‑delivery research
- Carboxyl‑group surface functionalization of rigid biodegradable tissue‑engineering scaffolds
- Synthetic intermediate for high‑strength degradable polyurethane and polyester materials
Handling & Storage
- Store at −20 °C under dry inert nitrogen or argon atmosphere
- Keep hermetically sealed and dry, avoid moisture‑caused side reactions; avoid repeated freeze‑thaw cycles
- For research‑only use; not intended for clinical or diagnostic applications
