Fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl protecting group (Fmoc) is a base-labile protecting group used in organic synthesis, generally used to protect amine groups of peptides/proteins. The Fmoc group can be introduced by the reaction of amine with fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl chloride. The Fmoc group can remove the Fmoc group under very mild alkaline conditions to generate the free amine.
