Unlike most normal cells in the body that have little affinity for folate, cancer cells have highly expressed folate receptor alpha. Because of these properties, folic acid (folate) can selectively bind to folate receptors in a wide range of cancer tissues, such as ovarian cancer, lung cancer, and more.
