8-arm-PLGA-OH, MW 40K is a high molecular weight eight-arm star-shaped biodegradable polyester terminated with hydroxyl groups. Synthesized from a central polyol core, the multi-branched architecture offers abundant terminal hydroxyl reactive sites compared with linear PLGA. The polymer features outstanding biocompatibility and adjustable degradation kinetics. Terminal hydroxyl (-OH) groups can act as initiating sites for subsequent chemical derivatization, such as esterification, ring-opening polymerization and terminal functional group transformation. It is extensively used as a raw precursor for the synthesis of functional PLGA derivatives, long-acting nanoparticle fabrication, crosslinkable hydrogel preparation and biodegradable sustained-release drug delivery carrier research.
