Thiol‑Poly(ε‑caprolactone) (PCL‑SH, MW 15K) is monothiol‑terminated high‑molecular‑weight biodegradable poly(ε‑caprolactone). Compared with lower MW PCL‑SH (2K‑10K), 15 kDa PCL‑SH delivers further elevated hydrophobicity and crystallinity, with an extremely slow hydrolytic degradation profile under physiological conditions. The terminal reactive thiol (-SH) enables thiol‑maleimide click chemistry, disulfide exchange reaction, and covalent immobilization onto gold‑based surfaces. This polymer is ideal for constructing highly stable hydrophobic core micelles, nanoparticles and bulk biodegradable constructs, widely exploited in sustained‑release drug delivery and long‑term tissue‑engineering research.
Key Features

- Further increased hydrophobicity and crystallinity relative to 10K PCL‑SH
- Excellent biocompatibility, very slow hydrolytic degradation rate
- Reactive terminal thiol for maleimide bioconjugation and gold‑surface anchoring
- Narrow molecular weight distribution, consistent batch‑to‑batch performance
- Soluble in DCM, CHCl₃, THF; insoluble in water
Applications
- Synthesis of ultra‑stable PCL‑based micelles and nanoparticles for sustained release of hydrophobic drugs
- Bioconjugation with maleimide‑modified peptides, proteins and targeting ligands
