Thiol‑Poly(ε‑caprolactone) (PCL‑SH, MW 3K) is a monothiol‑terminated hydrophobic biodegradable poly(ε‑caprolactone). Compared with 2 kDa PCL‑SH, the 3 kDa backbone brings enhanced hydrophobicity and higher crystallinity. The terminal reactive thiol (-SH) supports thiol‑maleimide click reaction, disulfide exchange reaction, and anchoring onto gold‑containing substrates. It is widely adopted to construct hydrophobic core of micelles, polymeric nanoparticles, and redox‑responsive polymer‑drug conjugates for biomedical research.
Key Features
- MW: 3000 Da, single‑end thiol functionalized poly(ε‑caprolactone)
- Higher hydrophobicity and crystallinity versus MW 2K PCL‑SH
- Biocompatible, hydrolytically degradable under physiological environment
- Free thiol group for conjugation with maleimide moieties and gold surfaces
- Low polydispersity, stable batch consistency
- Soluble in DCM, CHCl₃, THF; insoluble in aqueous solution
Applications
- Preparation of thiol‑functionalized PCL micelles and nanoparticles for drug encapsulation
- Bioconjugation with maleimide‑labelled targeting ligands, peptides and proteins
- Surface engineering of gold nanoparticles and gold‑coated biomaterial substrates
- Synthesis of redox‑sensitive disulfide‑bridged polymer‑drug conjugates
- Modification of biodegradable scaffolds for tissue‑engineering research
Handling & Storage
- Store at −20 °C under nitrogen or argon inert atmosphere
- Maintain dry condition, prohibit moisture contamination and repeated freeze‑thaw
- Thiol groups prone to oxidation; limit exposure to ambient air
- For laboratory research only, not intended for clinical use
