DSPE-FITC
Full Name: 1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-FITC
Key Properties
- A fluorescent phospholipid conjugate composed of a DSPE lipid and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) fluorophore.
- Amphiphilic structure: hydrophobic DSPE tails stably integrate into lipid bilayers, while the FITC fluorophore is exposed on the surface.
- Excitation/emission maxima around 495 nm / 515 nm, emitting bright green fluorescence.
- High fluorescence quantum yield and good photostability under physiological conditions.
- Biocompatible, low toxicity, and compatible with most lipid-based nanoparticle formulations.
- Practically insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform, methanol, DMSO, and other organic solvents.
- Light-sensitive; recommended storage at −20 °C, protected from light and oxidation.
Applications
- Fluorescent labeling and tracking of liposomes, lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), micelles, and lipid bilayers.
- Visualization of cell membrane fusion, endocytosis, and intracellular trafficking of lipid-based delivery systems.
- In vitro and in vivo imaging of drug carriers, including mRNA, DNA, and siRNA delivery vehicles.
- Quantification of lipid nanoparticle distribution using fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and plate readers.
- Membrane dynamics studies and model biomembrane characterization.
- Fluorescent labeling of exosomes, viral vectors, and other lipid-enclosed biological particles.
