DBCO-PEG-peptide is a class of molecules that have gained significant attention in drug research and development due to their unique functional groups. DBCO stands for dibenzylcyclooctyne, PEG for polyethylene glycol, and peptide for a sequence of amino acids. These compounds contain two important functional groups, the DBCO group and the PEG group, which provide several advantages for drug development, such as enhanced solubility, increased half-life, and improved targeting.

The DBCO functional group is a strained alkyne that can undergo a rapid and selective reaction with azide groups, forming a covalent bond called the copper-free click reaction. This reaction is widely used in drug research and development to attach various molecules, such as fluorophores, drugs, and peptides, to the DBCO-PEG-peptide backbone. The PEG group, on the other hand, is a flexible polymer that can improve the water solubility and pharmacokinetic properties of the compound, such as increasing its half-life in the bloodstream.
