Bicytotin hydrochloride (CAS:98930-70-2 ε-N-biotinyl-L-lysine) is a derivative of D-biotin containing an L-lysine group. Biocytin is used as a substrate to study biotinidase specificity and kinetics, to measure biotinidase deficiency, and as a model compound to study various uptake mechanisms in cells and tissues. Biocytetin hydrochloride enables protein biotinylation using EDAC under slightly acidic conditions (pH 4-6), which differentiates the N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester of biotin.
