AF488 NHS ester is a bright and photostable dye that is a sulfonated rhodamine dye, Rhodamine 110 (R110). Due to its high hydrophilicity, this is the dye of choice for labeling sensitive proteins and antibodies. AF488 nhs ester can be used in many demanding applications, including microscopy, and like other rhodamines, it has 5- and 6-isomers, which have nearly identical photophysical properties. But the isomers need to be separated – otherwise, the use of mixed isomer dyes can result in doublets during HPLC or electrophoretic separation of labeled products. The product is isomerically pure 5-AF488, an NHS ester that is an amine-reactive dye that can label amine groups in proteins, peptides, amino-modified oligonucleotides, and other target molecules.
