Thiol-PEG-acid (Thiol-peg-cooh) is a linker for bioconjugation, and HS-PEG-COOH contains a thiol group and a terminal carboxylic acid group linked by a linear PEG chain. It is soluble in common aqueous solutions as well as most organic solvents and can be used to modify heterobifunctional PEG derivatives of proteins, peptides and other materials with amino or other acid-reactive chemical groups. Pegylation can increase solubility and stability and reduce the immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It also inhibits nonspecific binding of charged molecules to the modified surface.
