Benzyloxy carbonyl-PEG3-NHS ester contains a benzyl protected carboxylic acid group and an NHS ester. The NHS ester readily reacts with the primary amine on proteins, oligonucleotides, and other biomolecules. After removing the benzyl protecting group under mild acidic condition or hydrogenation, the resulting carboxylic acid can undergo amide coupling with another amine containing biomolecule. The PEG spacer increases the compound’s solubility in aqueous media.
