Terminal carboxylic acids can react with primary amine groups to form stable amide bonds in the presence of activators such as EDC or HATU. The tert-butyl protected carboxyl group can be deprotected under acidic conditions. Hydrophilic PEG spacers increase solubility in aqueous media.
