Pico488 is a DNA-binding benzothiazole dye that is structurally identical to PicoGreen®. The dye is a fluorescent sensor specific to double-stranded DNA (dsDNA). Its absorption and emission in the fluorescein channel can be easily detected using cuvette fluorometers, well plate readers, and dedicated DNA measurement fluorometers. This reagent is a 200x solution in DMSO.

It is supplied as a 200x concentrate solution in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and is used in combination with a fluorometer or spectrophotometer to measure dsDNA concentrations. The solution is optimized for use with a variety of dsDNA concentrations and can be used to measure concentrations as low as 0.1 nanograms per microliter.
